Smile Help!!! D2 V8 wont start!!

Hi Guys...My 2003 V8 D2 suddenly will not start. I am running on LPG and petrol. The system as far as i am aware starts on petrol then switches to gas. Usually she starts first turn of key. However last few weeks has been getting longer to start. So this is a progressive failure. Now no go at all.
I have done a quick search and possibles are crank angle sensor, and fuel pump. Any ideas??? And how do i tell which one or something else. Which one would fail progressively??
Appreciate any help guys....love the forum.

Fuel pump, definitely. They leak down after stopping and take longer nd longer to build up pressure to start. Pull up the back carpet, the pump is under a hatch in the floor. Get someone to turn the key, you should hear the pump start if it is running. Probably new pump time but you could pull it and look for a failed outlet hose.

Smack bang in the middle, undo the finisher strip just inside the back door, then pull the carpet away from under the side boxes.

Thanks for the responses guys...yes a whack on the tank gets a bit more of a splutter. I am going to remove the lpg tank to access the floor and remove access panel today. Hope to have the little blighter in my hands by smoko! will keep you updated.

    ok now what??crank angle sensor??

Checked the fuel pump and she's fine. Running and plenty of pressure.
This morning she seems to be spluttering a bit more but still no start.....Whats this i hear about the crank angle sensor. Could that progressively fail or would that just stop working??? Answers on a postcard...

In my experience the crank angle sensor would work OK when cold but would not allow the engine to fire when hot.

When I measured mine it read 9K ohms and the new one was 800 ohms.

    Hope that helps.x

I assume you have checked for spark??? About the first diagnostic that should have happened. A timing light connected should pick up a regular pulse when cranking. An old spark plug in a lead will do too. No pulse would indicate possibly a dud crank angle sensor.

    Unhappy update

ok got it started. She runs fine on gas(lpg) but when driving down a hill i switch over to petrol and she splutters at best. Switch back to LPG and she hums. Which puts me back to thinking the fuel pump or something on that side. Running on gas eliminates anything electronic on start/run side. So either my fuel pump is not managing to keep pressure to keep the girl running (ie on the way out) or i have a blockage/Injectors???

If my ECU was gone i wouldn't have any spark??? just thinking out loud. Feel free to step in anytime...Back to the workshop!
