Angry TD5 Turbo on the way out?!?

Hi all, Upon return home tonight i noticed a slight tap sound from the turbo at around the 2k rpm mark, car has done 115'000km.

after lifting the bonnet i find that there is a mettalic tapping noise comming from the turbo at idle, more pronounced on higher revs. and then more rattles when the engine is off and the turbo is spinning down.
I have had a slight increase on my td5 (wind the wastegate rod in (12 threads exposed)

Is this a dead turbo, any idea on a cost to fix/replace? .. to top things off, my pasenger side window got stuck when winding up, like it's come off it's guide or something.

Ok, have just checked and the centrifugal is still making it's normal spin down whine... rattle definately from the turbo, more pronounced now on slight revs etc...

Window is hopefully just the regulator cheap and easy to fix. Turbo sounds like maybe the exhaust turbine is maybe touching the housing? You could take it off and have a look inside. New Garret in UK should be around 450 pounds.

Surely it is only bearings that need to be replaced in the turbo.
There is nothing much in them really.

Assuming your not using synthetic oil, check the oil feed line for blockage and the oil feed inlet.

The GT2052 is a journal bearing and needs oil pressure to centralize it unlike ball bearing units. If its hitting the case then you have a bearing problem. Most turbo places can do an exchange bearing body and swap out housings, compressor and turbine wheels or just do a complete exchange.

The shaft will move from side to side and slightly end to end but should not touch anywhere.

Thanks, I bought the vehicle 7 months ago from a toyota dealership.. I have no idea what oils they used, however i'm not to confident it was the correct spec.. my fault for not changing it really.

Would anyone have a ballpark idea on cost to have it rebuilt assuming w/bearings & inlet turbine.. It appears the fins have a bit of wear on them..

I have priced a reco turbo for around the 800 mark, and new about 1-1200.
