    Question Rear fold down step

I have noticed that a lot of other Discovery's have a rear fold down step. I'm not sure if this was just a Series 1 Discovery thing or if Discovery 2's also go them? I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE TD5 and it does not have one. Is it easy enough to fit - i.e. just get one from a wrecker and bolt it in?

I thought all the HSE's came with the step as all HSE's come standard as seven seaters from memory. It sounds like someone took yours off if it doesn't have one.
I had a quick look several months ago and it looks very easy to take off as I have been considering taking mine off, so it should be easy to refit one as well.

    cheers,
    Terry

The step came standard with the 7 seaters. It is simply pivoted on the end with a gas strut in the middle which pulls it up. I'm pretty sure you can retro fit them to any D2.

are they really worth it ,as they seem to look like you could step up on the bumper by the time you raise your foot onto them?
Do they foul rear departure angle?

i took mine off as it gets in the way and now that i have torn the plastic bumber off about 2000000 times im guessing it was a wise choice. I have a 2" lift and 32's and am about 6ft tall and i can just step onto the rear bar.

Probably ideal however for the midgets that sit in the 3rd row seats mind you.

I havent ripped mine off in 3 yrs i've owned mine. But then, I dont do the full on hard tracks! I've still got small boys & they use it, I've used as well when I clean the roof. Mines also got a 2" lift & I just run BFG all-terrains.

I just take mine off if I am going bush as it does limit departure clearance. It is a good thing for those of us under 6' to get in and out of the back. I had to replace the gas strut in mine some years back so if you won't use it leave it off as it is just another thing that costs.

My rig has a 2" suspension light, and I am intending to put a latter going up the rear boot door in order to get stuff up and down from the roof rack easier. Having the step there will/should come as an advantage for that. The vehicle is a towing vehicle/tourer, while it regularly sees dirt tracks, not much serious stuff that I believe the step will cause a significant clearance issue - besides as someone earlier pointed out it's easy enough to remove when necessary.
