[Discovery SII TD5] What gear ratio to compensate 32" ?

    Hi guys,

Actually I have a D2 with 245/75/16, and it is a little overgeared upping hills due to the lacking of lower torque on TD5's, even with my Stage1 remap. I am considering to move to the 32" on 265/75/16, and I have on mind three ideas.:

    1. Move the transfer ratio to the same of Defender (1.411)
    2. Upgrade my Turbo to a Turbo Technics TGV or TD5Alive híbrid
    3. Upgrade to a Stage2 or Stage 3 remap without replacing the turbo

What is your advice ? If it exists (?), what is the perfect transfer ratio replacement to return the transfer ratio to standard with 29" ?

    Go to a stage 2 re-map.

    I agree with Baz.

I have a stage 2 map with 32s and it seems to have plenty of torque up hills.

I plan to put 32" on my d2 and change the diff ratio to 3.9:1. This should be very close to standard.

Changing diff ratio changes low gears too, while changing transfer ratio only affects the high gears. Where do you have found that diff ratio ? I have visited Ashcroft Transmissions and i do not have seen it.

    I wouldn't for 32s, 33s yes, the biggest 32" tyre is 31.8" (235/85/16) then there is 265/75/16 at 31.7".

The thing is, if you change your ratios and you decide to go back to smaller tyres, you have to change your ratios again, with a chip you don't, you'll just end up with a weapon

The reason I will be changing the ratios is mainly because I do a lot of towing. I don't need higher gearing.
