Thread: Disco 2 UK to AUS conversions

May need side intrusion bars (a common thing for many jap imports but may already be fitted, often they want seatbelts changed (just because), tyres (same reason), it'll need a really good clean underneath and probably strip any massive anti corrosion coating that they get over there but you won't need it so much here.

I'm pretty sure the only change will be the intrument panel, which will only be a straight swap over as the only difference is the speedo, I thought UK vehicles had both KPH and MPH on the speedo??

I need to have a kph only speedo AND a metric odometer. My research tells me that if I plug in a metric pod there will be issues with the odometer but I am not clear on what they are.

18.5.1.1. Unless otherwise 'Approved', every vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which shall:

18.5.1.1.1. indicate vehicle speed only in kilometres per hour and

18.5.1.1.2. indicate the actual vehicle speed, for all speeds above 40 km/h, to an accuracy of ± 10 percent
18.5.1.2. The speedometer shall be installed so that its indication is readily visible to the driver when seated in the normal driving position.

18.5.2. Odometers
18.5.2.1. Every vehicle other than L-group vehicles shall be fitted with an odometer which shall:
18.5.2.1.1. indicate distance travelled in one kilometre units (or less) from 1 to 999,999 kilometres; and
18.5.2.1.2. indicate the actual distance travelled by the vehicle to an accuracy of ±4 per cent.

What do they mean by "Approved"? Can an inspector approve a vehicle with dual markings?

Mine was approved with dual markings after import. It still reads distance in miles.

The wifes 90 (imported from the UK) still has an MPH speedo. It's fully legal in Australia. As long as the speedo face displays the KMH you will be OK. I am swopping it for a KPH one as trying to read the KPH numbers in the dark on a 90 speedo is very difficult. Tyres should not be a problem but, they do try and hit you for seatbelts (got caught for both 90's). If they are marked or frayed in any way swop them before you bring it over as it's much cheaper than getting seatbelts over here.
clubagreenie what vehicle do you want a speedo for? The one in the wifes 90 will be available shortly.

I will happily swap the dual format instruments for a KMH only if you'd like and yes, you'll need to syncronise the BCU to the Dash cluster using a Nanocom/MVS/Rovacom (or visit a workshop)
