Try the Good Oil in here, there's heaps of threads on it - though i'd say your switch is knackered, and you'll need a new one.
I just had to replace mine, and that's how it started....it will get progressively worse and you can can get stuck in limp home mode.

Just had it happen on my D2, drove it back into the garage to look on here for the problem, went back out to it again, and all good again. Will look at getting it checkd over before the warranty runs out though.

Yep- XYZ Inhibitor. Mine was intermittent for months until a deep water crossing put it down and limp home came in. Upon replacement found a hair line crack in the housing- hence intermittent. If the Indicators for P, R D, 3 etc are not illuminated on the selector housing- that's a guarantee it's cactus.

There should be 2 air con drains, 1 above the switch, and another above the front prop which drips onto the double carden joint. The cheapest start is checking battery voltage, and earth points. Mine played up after getting submerged in water, yes flooded the inside of the car including the transmission controller under the passenger seat. I would also check the gear stick itself, when in gear it might move slightly back and forth, if you try it, don't need to be driving, but select 1 gear at a time, and push lever forward and back, not trying to move into another gear, but watch the symbol on the dash. Mine will think its out of gear if I push it forward slightly, and the D will disappear, likewise with R & 3
Turn your car off and restart, it should reset for you, then just slow your gear selection down.

You can take the switches apart and save yourself a few hundred dollars if you have the time. I haven't done it but there is a good link to show you how.

m&s lights
1st check voltage and charge from alternator.Even if seems O.K. check alternator connections, especially earth strap to engine, hard to see on right hand side of engine under wiring harness at the front.Need to remove acoustic cover.
Drains as stated are above the xyz switch and carden joint.small conical shaped rubber bungs with slits in them. Can fix easily by inserting 10mm od beverage tube into them and tying off to transmission lines with cable ties.
Don`t need to be a perfect fit,the water will either go through the tubes or track down the outside away from the abovementioned items.
checked for coins etc under the selector cover? Can cause all sorts of issues when they partially or fully jam up the works.
