A week ago, after a mud training day with the local 4wd club I got water in my 2002 TD5 hooters. I removed them today and poured out some muddy water. The bass one sounds like a 6 volt volkswagen horn but the high one is fine. They both still slosh when shaken but no further water comes out. If I leave them will something inside rust? Can they be stripped? Can I drill a drain hole? Could I just put them somewhere warm to dry out (not too hot)? Would mounting them pointing down ameliorate the design flaw? Thanks

Only solution is to replace them with musical air horns!![]()
As it wasn't working I risked drilling a hole in it (picture attached) and shaking out the last of the muddy water. Still only a feeble "meep meep" sound. So I flushed it out with clean water I (via the new hole) and ... result! I works like it used to. I am going to leave the hole for future evaporation.

After some quality time replacing radiators, I have spent some time taking these in and out. As a tip, when you install them, have the horns facing down.
ie horn at the bottom, they are interchangeable.
Note: The web site referenced above looks nothing like my install as the sound padding is missing and the horns again seem installed incorrectly.

2016 Discovery D4 SDV6 HSE ARB Bar, lights and winch. Wow
Mine filled with water & blew a fuse. From memory i think it is the same fuse as the cruise control.
That was in an earlier D2 i had,01 MY.
The D2a i have now has been through a lot of very deep water,& it has never affected the horn,so maybe something was changed on the later models?
why not just fit a poly tarp in front of your vehicle to stop all this mud and gunk getting into horns and radiators etc etc.
I't might not look cool, but pioneers in 4wding used to do it.
