Hi all,
Today I noticed my brake lights weren't working and so did the usual and checked fuse and checked globes, all checked OK. So I then went and removed brake light switch to check resistance of terminals. The resistance on terminals 1 & 3 were returning varying results eg. 0.6ohms to OL, pins 1 & 2 seemed ok, so I decided I would pull apart switch to see if I could clean terminals. I struggled for some time trying to get the switch apart due to not having needle nose pliers, when I finally got it apart I was amazed to see the condition of one of the contacts. At some stage the contact must have become high resistive and over time caused the contact to produce some high heat due to current levels over contact. I have attached some photos to show the condition, in the final photo you can see where the plastic has bubbled.
Cheers Matt
