Something else to check
Hi All
On our way back from S.A. this Easter we noticed a new rattle coming from the TD5 engine as we slowed for an intersection. It was fairly loud and not too hard to find, the 3 10mm bolts on the front of the Viicous fan were only hang in by a few threads the attatched pully was wobbling all over the place and had damaged the heads of the bolts to the point where I had to do them up with vice grips.
If it had happened a bit further up the road at speed we would not of heard the rattle until it was too late!
If they had come out compleatly I think the resulting damage to radiators, fan belts and fans would have meant a tow truck home. I have since replaced them and added a good quality spring washer and a mild Locktite to enshure it doesnt re-occur. To my knowledge they have never been touched since the factory?
A simple check might save some some expense.
