Milford Cargo Barrier Disco 2 install thread

The 2nd photo shows the mounting plate with its "mounting plate seal" in position ready to be matched up with the mounting bracket.

It seemed obvious in hindsight but there is no need to drill a 22mm hole in floor of the vehicle to insert the mounting plate through if you have an assistant to get under the vehicle and place it in position from below.

So why did I still drill the 22m hole on one side before realising what I'd done? NFI. Brain fade brought on by too many hours crouched down in the back of the Disco with my sciatica giving me hell - that's my excuse. In the end I had to get under the car to do the other side as my wife's arms weren't long enough to reach up to the floor...

I squeezed a good amount of their "Tekote Sealer/Rust Preventative" around the union between the vehicle and the mounting plate. Mattyg also mentions applying an additional sealant to this area - a good suggestion...must remember to get under there again soon and do that.

Final note on these floor mounts - have a look at the final pic to note the fuel lines that will be directly below where your drill bit is exiting the floor of the vehicle. Best not to go to deep with your drill in this area :angel:

Just fitted mine over the weekend. If anyone ever needs a hand, let me know and ill make sure im busy that weekend!!! Actually now that I know what to do, I reckon it would only take me 2-3 hours, rather than the 6 it took me.

Interestingly, when fitting the top front mounts for the dual position, the left front mount I couldnt fit due to the rear air supply tube, so im limited to just the rear position only. Annoying that in my research that I didnt come across anything indicating rear air as a limiting factor? Oh well im sure i'll live.

Fitting kit from ARB had everything i needed.

There's good usable space with "tie down points" in front of the barrier if the driver's side rear seat/middle seat is folded up (yes, kind of defeats the purpose of having everything behind the barrier but there are items of gear that I could justify tying down with a ratchet strap into this position eg. a Spacecase with recovery gear or a small esky)

I finally started installing my milford barrier the other weekend as I had started removing rear trim to install my replacement air compressor. I must admit it was a bastard of a job, very doable but being cramped up in the boot for a few hours is not fun. I found the centre 22mm hole in the rear mount position gave me some grief, I used a step drill and it worked well but the plate that goes behind the panel ends up on a slight angle due to panel design and it causes M10 bolt to tighten up on an angle and so you need almost all 22mm for clearance. The instructions are ok but leave a little detail out especially in the photos. I didn't drill the 22mm hole in the floor, i found I could do it by passing the insertion tool through from underneath with plate attached and it would stay there until I got back into the boot to tighten. The 22mm rear access hole should probably be 25mm, I had to file it to a rectangular shape to get the plate to fit. I would recommend to anyone using a holesaw to make sure it is sharp or near new, I used an old one and it got very hot drilling through the layers of panels, the step drill also works well for drilling through interior panels.

I was recently in a roll over and now we ahve got another Disco 2 am looking at a cargo barrier.

What I do like is that these Milford barriers can be in stalled in the foward position but I can find no pics of that?

if its in the forward position, can the seats still be folded down? (I suspect not)
I pretty much use our as a wagon ute with the rear seats folded most of the time but I dont wnat to take them out as we do use them some times?

Could some one post some pictures of the barrier in the forward position please?

I've only just spotted your post sorry. I'll see if can locate a photo for you. It might take some digging on the web though as I am yet to mount mine in the forward position... vehicle has 2 child seats mounted in the rear currently. If you're not in a rush I'll probably have the barrier in its forward position in about 3 weeks though.

I bought my barrier from 4wd systems, can`t remember the brand but was very easy install.
Bottom brackets attach to the cargo tie down points behind the rear seat and the top brackets have a couple of bars that attach to the third row seat belt connections behind the trim on the roof.

Probably took about an hour to install and no drilling on the vehicle required.

Did have to modify one of the bottom brackets though, it wasn`t long enough for some reason.

If you can post a couple of photos of the attachment points and the item in place that would be very useful for those that might be in the market for a barrier.

Does it have provision for mounting in the forward position?

I'm guessing it cost less than the $600 or so (IIRC) that the Milford costs.

Cost was about $450 delivered all parts included.

Will be a couple of weeks before I can post picks as I`m away at work atm.
