Thread: Double DIN??

There's a thread somewhere that shows the lengths one guy went to in fitting a double din. I cant recall if it was this forum or a US forum.

It was impressive either way.

With some careful planning and trimming you will fit a double din in there.

Rule of thumb - If it is anything to do with a land rover, chances are it has been discussed in these forums at some stage. This one is - from recollection they relocated the climate control unit down, removed the 'cup holders' and had to remove some of the plastics.

I put a single DIN DVD player into my D2a TD5 - screen comes up for control, reversing camera (auto up), DVD (when car not moving etc). (bluetooth, plays MP3s, SD card, USB input, etc, etc). I set it up so that I can play a DVD through it and feed the sound through the speakers and output to either front, back or both DVD screesns. I went with the jaycar unit. Chinavision now has a DVD player for under $400 that you can also swivel the screen left or right when its out, so that the passenger can view movies w/o distracting driver. It also has a GPS etc. Quality ??? Don't know

I dont think any of the double dins are top of the range,,
and if its for show, you are better off with a media player with pop-out screen,,

I fitted a double din to my disco 2. It wasn't a huge process, though I did have to cut the plastic surround around the top of the original stereo.
If you remove the factory stereo you can cut out the bracket and divider that hold it in place. After you have done that there's only the cutting of the plastic surround left.

I was thinking double DIN mainly just for something different, i have had the pop out screens in the past and have had a couple motors fail on me I was thinking along the lines of this

ALPINE IVA-W202E DOUBLE DIN CAR DVD STEREO IPOD PLAYER | eBay

Or even something with integrated GPS, i was looking at the cheaper units on Ebay but a little unsure of quality. Looks like they run a version of windows too (outdated i'd imagine)

Could be an interesting Sunday arvo project over a couple of beers :-)
