Double Din Dash Rebuild, Land Rover Discovery - DIYMA.com

This seriously looks good... anyone thought of or know of someone doing this as an aftermarket thing? I reckon there's some business out there for someone who's got the gear to make them.. I'd be buying one straight up!

    Its not hard....here is mine:

Once you pull the dash apart, you will see it is easy to mount a double din cage, and lower the climate control. trick is making it look factory. I got local car audio shop to do the fabrication/fibreglass work.

That looks really tidy... how much was it to get them to do the fab work? And, who did it if I can ask?

I cant remember how much it cost. It was about a days labour. I had already pulled the dash apart, and shown him exactly what I wanted. He had the fibreglassing skills....giving it an OEM look. I had it done at Freeway Car Audio in Malvern, VIC. My bill also included fitting the amp, and supply and fit of the Alpine unit....If I recall, it was about an extra $300 for the labour,

looks really good, I have a Polaris that I was going to sell as I didnt think it would ever fit, so its brand new never used, maybe I'll change my mind and have a look at fitting it, how does the radio come out by the way

    cheers

most radios, oem or aftermarket, have "keys" that slide in the side, and release locking tabs. then they just pull out.

FOr the double din, there are planty of things to mount a double din cage on iside the dask, its just case of putting it in the right place. the only hard thing is cutting the trim, and moving it.

I put a single DIN DVD player into my D2a TD5 - screen comes up for control, reversing camera (auto up), DVD (when car not moving etc). (bluetooth, plays MP3s, SD card, USB input, etc, etc). I set it up so that I can play a DVD through it and feed the sound through the speakers and output to either front, back or both DVD screesns. I went with the jaycar unit. Chinavision now has a DVD player for under $400 that you can also swivel the screen left or right when its out, so that the passenger can view movies w/o distracting driver. It also has a GPS etc. Quality ??? Don't know

@bsperka how good is that single din HU? Would you recommend it?
Sorry for being off-topic. I'm looking for advice on single din head units and my last resort is the forum.
I've been looking for a good one and I couldn't make my mind up. All the reviews on the net seem to be hype. They are downplaying flaws and hyping any common sense feature like the volume knob. There are many brands that make stereos and they have almost unlimited selections. What should I be looking for? On the other hand I've came across a different site. The blogger says it as it is and holds nothing back. It's a bit critical for my taste. That has put me on the fence. So where should I get started?

    Any ideas?

What do you need it to do?
cd's and dvd's are almost redundant nowadays,

if you scroll backwards thru the D2 forum you will see various headunits installed and rated..
