    D2 TD5 Start Battery

Jumped in the car this morning to go to work and all I could here was "Click" I think the battery has died (had some cold mornings here).

Its a Dec 01 build and looks like an original/very old battery ( I have had the car for 2.5 years) can anyone recommend a replacement so I can go grab one this morning, I found a couple of threads with the following batteries
    1. Century 86ZMF
    2. Cat 115-2422

Which one is better and not going to cost a kidney???

Or is ther any other recommendations

    TIA Dazza

Also how do I get the radio code as I dont have it and the radio is displying "Code"

Give a LR dealer a call, they'll need the last 6 digits of your VIN.

I think I have found the code will try soon, post it note in the glovebox, LR Newcastle wanted $30 and sight the rego papers or phone the original LR seller of the vehicle.

Settled for the Cat battery $230, just gota get it to fit
BTW the Century one was $279

Strange thing is the "old battery" is showing 12v and the indicator on it is showing good on the bench, terminals are clean but wouldnt turn it over

Before fitting the new battery try getting the old one tested test, it may be the starter.

Mine did a simmilar thing when the starter solinoid died.
See "the good oil" for a "how to" repair if it is the starter.
    Cheers, Kyle

    Starter motor solenoid testing

Hi Dazza67, We had the same click sound which later proved to be the starter motor solenoid failing. You could do the following simple tests to determine the fault.

First turn the headlights on, and if they dim after a few seconds, this indicates that the battery is discharged. If the headlights glow brightly, operate the starter switch and observe the lights. If they dim, then this means the current is reaching the starter motor. If the lights remain bright, it indicates that there is a fault in the circuit or the solenoid.

When carrying out this test on our Discovery, the lights remained bright, thus indicating that the solenoid had failed. After replacing the solenoid, the starter motor operated as normal. See further the Haynes Discovery 2 Td5 Owners Workshop Manual. LRT

If they dim but stay constant, then this means the current is reaching the starter motor.
If the lights remain bright, it indicates that there is a fault in the circuit or the solenoid.
If the light dim and then continue to untill very dull, this means a bad battery or terminals/leeds.

    Added a little in red.

It was the battery in the end, looks like a bulge in one end of it when I finaly removed it, I took it down the road and it failed a load test 12v no amps.

I was actually suprised at how wildly expensive the over the phone quotes were varying from $200 for 650 cca 80amp up to $300 for 1000cca 120amp some even more, so the CAT battery was right in the sweet spot for money and performance $231 GST inc 1000cca 100amp calcium acid.

Many thanks Alien D2, your additions make the tests a lot clearer. I hope they are helpful for others. LRT
