    yet another D2 suspension question

    Hi All

    after weeks of searching the worlds LR forums i haven't really found the answer to to my question.... I have come very close but it seems no one likes to go back and complete a thread after they have had the equipment installed.

    So we haveTD5 D2a that my wife drives with 80k on the clock that's bog stock apart from a LR nudge bar. Since we got about 18 months ago I have been suss on the suspension and has a little sag in the back due to the previous owner used to tow a small town house across Victoria a few times a year) and the shocks don't seem to do anything

    This car is going to be the family DD and family tourer but I have to keep at around std height so she can get into car parks under 2 mtrs. I have a 2nd set of tyres MTZ 265 / 75 /16 for when we take it off road so i need to fit them also. I have a set of bilsteins coming from the USA (should arrive today) which are std height and I want to use King Springs.

    So the question -
    If i fit King springs
    KRFS-06 - front
    KRRS-04 - rear or KRRR - 04
    I was thinking of doing the same as 3-GEES and running the higher rated rear spring.
    How do you think this will this effect my ride as i don't run a bull bar and the rear is mostly empty well as empty as you can be with 2 kids)

    Does anyone have this exact config? How does it ride?

    I'm not sure why this was such a hard question to have answered!

    A higher rated spring will jack the back up a little higher than standard and will increase the stiffness, which translates to a firmer/rougher ride.
    Stick with as close to OEM as possible if your missus is using it a a daily and you only occasionally go offroad.

    I have the HD lovells +50mm without bars and it has gone up +80mm without the extra weight, ride however is surprisingly ok. Still on std shocks so it's careful over the speed humps as they top out. Fox pro's getting built in the states, waiting for delivery. Sits at 2.04m to the top of the roof rails.

    Are kings springs taller or just a higher rate? It makes a huge difference!

    Car park she uses all the time is 1950mm that's the base line

    I took to the bar chains in my park with some wire after measuring the bar, marked at 2.0m was sitting at 1.9.

    LOL good work!

    Where I park is 2050 i can get in the front gate but leading up to the roof they have 2 roller doors well they had 2 I pretty much ripped one off the the wall with the hoop on the tray!
    But yes what they say out the front is normally a safe measurement not the exact measurement

    Its a pain in the arse trying to find a multi storey carpark in melb city that allows above 1.9m, it takes a bit of pre planning before going in because my d2 sits about 2.05m. If using as a daily driver then like sully said stay close to oem for convenience, if your are planning to carry loads occasionaly then maybe consider air bag helpers. If you stick with standard or comfort springs it should give you better articulation off road as opposed to heavy duty springs.

    Disco ute,I just read this thread and went and measured mine ,with 20l of fuel and nothing else,it sits at 2005mm,raised rear and std front Kings.As I said in my saga thread(new springs,not happy Jan),I'm very happy with that set up,much better to drive and front springs feel softer and rear handles loads well.As Imatt said ,you loose a bit of articulation with heavier springs,but Ive' found the longer rears have thrown some weight forward so now the front compress a bit more to help with flexing.As with most things,springs are a compromise ,but as mine settle in ,the ride is getting even better!!

    fitted the bilsteins to the wife's D2 this morning.... I have to say that its a new beast! It has made more of a difference then I ever expected the car as only done 80k but the factory shocks were just crap! The ride is now a little firmer then before but I don't mind it and it sits flat cornering and doesn't pivot from front to rear and side to side when we hit speed humps and pot holes. Can't wait to get some new springs for it now!
