Changed PAS to reservoir hose now WTF

I replaced the reservoir to PAS pump yesterday to fix a leek on the D2,
I topped up the fluid with TQ D111 as per Castrols web site for powersteering for Disco 2.
( They also have another note: 167 Land Rover PAS Fluid 14315 is recommended for the PAS/ACE reservoir. Refer to Dealer .

After I finished the job I started the disco and turned wheel full lock side to side and all was good.
This morning I started the disco and the steering was a stiffer, but came better as it warmed up. I went for a short drive and when I parked and came back later, all the p/s floiud had emptied out thru the relief cap on the reservoir.
I then have tried to bleed the system via the bleed screw on the steering box and have flushed another litre of fluid through it.
But now when turning the wheel, the pump groans. I had a look at the fluid in the resevoir and it seems to be recirculating , but it has a bit of captivation.
I'm worried the the PAS pump might have gone U/S.
PS, duting bleeding there was a bit of splattering of expelling air and fluid, but that late became a stream, abeit there was captivation.
I even tried opening the bleed valve whilst the engine was off, a couple of bubbled popped out and then fluid.

Well, my theory is that you have a blockage between the reservoir and the pump. Why else would the fluid come out of the reservoir?

The fluid is being pumped through the box and back to the reservoir but cannot then flow back to the pump at the same volume.

If the pump were not pumping , then you would just have a still pond in the reservoir.

dunno Phillip, but went for a drive and all the fluid was now gone from the res' and leaking at a teriffic rate from the pump. steering was easier abeit noisy to left but right there was sometimes assistance.
I have a brand new pump on hand to use and replace the existing one. (ps LUCAS additive did nothing except quieten it down slightly.(
I found the the water pump is noisey when spun by hand so I might raid the stock and replace that whilst the fan belt is off, and if I'm really enthusiastic I will replace the tensioner bearings.

Once you have introduced air into the system foaming will occur until the air is purged. Your reservoir hose may possibly be sucking air? Or you cracked the hose nipples? Otherwise, leave the vehicle overnight, disconnect something so the engine won't fire. Raise the front axle and put it on stands. Crank the engine while wheeling it from lock to lock. Do this very carefully so that no foamy fluid is drawn back into the pump by topping it up with fresh fluid frequently. You can run the fluid in using a cut-off clear soda bottle, and let the outlet purge into either another bottle or the top of the soda bottle.

Or your new pump-reservoir seal is stuffed.

    new hose?

are you sure you removed the clear plastic caps from each end before fitting?
or did it have red or blue caps?

not a stupid Qu, but, No I removed them, you can't fit them with them on anyway as they have a lip that protrudes over the hose edge.

ok, i got hit up by a guy who had managed to do same. 3 new hoses latter and a lot of oil. had me stuped for a bit. logic said a blocked hose but the plastic bit by then had been pushed all the way down and nearly into the pump

To bleed a power steer system, you simply start the engine and turn lock to lock a few times, bleed screw? I'm not all that familiar with d2s but on anything thing earlier that's a steering box adjustment and not what you want to play with without some knowledge!
