    In both cases you will see the brakes lock up (front only) and the resultatnt loss of traction and steering.

    I have used hdc a lot. In both cases there is something wrong. In the first it looks like braking whilst reversing. They are not at all accurate of hdc especially the front first downhill. Cheers

    What apart from the video speed being 10x

    You have to wonder if it was in neutral. Also hdc turns off for a long as the brake pedal is being used or throttle is being used - it is still monitoring and is ready to cut in again as soon as throttle is released or brake off. Cheers

    Why would you use HDC in that situations ( test2 video) ?? You have to use common sense HDC is more of a gimic than a use full feature, in 4x4 I would love to use HDC with custom radar sensors on the front apply breaks to avoid a nose to tail accidents... That's got to be possible on a D2 to wire up...

    Remove the connections to wheel speed inputs and attach to the outputs of the radar?

    Need to look at the wiring diagram... Is there a way to activate the breaking motor? ( is there a relay in the fuse box that can be bypassed)? Has anyone done this?

    I am one of the ones that likes HDC. I think its not excuse or substitute for good driving and I have driven down hills without HDC, but it is an aid when you know how to use it properly. So with the braking system well serviced (lack of which also lets down traction control...) engage the HDC at top of hill in low range first and in my case let out clutch and idle off - the V8 idles low, under 1000 when it has to. And you can go at less than walking pace down very very steep and rutted hills no probs and the HDC occasionally gives the brake pads on a wheel or wheels a dab and its all very easy and controlled - no need for handbrake, no need to accelerate to a regain steering or stop lock up, cause it didnt happen in the first place. Maybee I am just lucky with my truck - or maybe the combination of manual and V8 and HDC just works well.

    Mine is V8 and auto and works really well, in in both TC and HDC. Which is what worries me, are these videos a result of epic failure or lack of maintenance? The later case I can avoid easily.

    Here are some observations of lessons learnt from relatively limited experience:

    The second video clearly illustrates my earlier point about needing to get to 7kph before HDC kicks in. If you apply HDC while already on a steep section, it will run away and lock-up.
    The idea is to have HDC engaged and working just before the steep section, and it would wander down no trouble at all. Just ensure you select the correct (low) gear to start with, and don't be tempted to use the brakes.
    With an auto I always select first gear in manual mode for such a descent.
    If travelling too slowly on not such a steep descent, you are better off not using HDC, and use engine braking instead, which is quite effective for a ULP auto.
    It's important to apply the brakes as little as possible, or they will soon overheat.
    Oh yes, and practice makes perfect.
