Its perfectly normal.
HDC (hill decent) uses the ABS modulator to "brake" the vehicle on and off whilst descending. What your hearing is ABS pump / modulator "doing its thing"
When trying out the descent control this weekend on the newly purchased 04 Disco i found that there is this awful noise. Its not the clicking type noise thats supposed to be there. It sort of made the noise every few seconds a bit like a clunking sound. Anyone else heard of this.![]()

I'd have to agree with urban panzer the hill decent on our 2000 d2 is quiet noisy, coming from the abs modulator doing it's thing. I'm not surprised though it's a small motor working hard to pump fluid to the wheels it wants to slow down, works great and I don't always use it.
Hmm, hope its normal. Just dont remember it happening on the last Disco. I remember the clicking but not the cluncking type noise.
All as previous posts. If your last Disco clicked, I would say it had a problem.
Mine can sound like a hammer drill when working hard!
cheers
Cool, makes me feel better.
When it sounds like it's fallen off and going under the wheels it's fine. It's only when the 3 lights come on and it stops you need worry.
Sounds normal as said above...
Not a really useful system in a TD5 though...
I run it once a month just to keep the shuttle valves working
