    fitting larger tyres

    Hi All,

I have a 2nd set of tyres for the wife's D2a 265/75/26 on std alloy rims that will go on the car every other month when we go away.

I will be fitting a set of std height king springs so i should get a slight lift problem is it has not bull bar so the factory bar might be an issue.
I have seen a few ppl with d2s with the same size tyre (265...) and they have trimmed the front bar... but they had the normal front bar not a 2a

pic of the front bar side on no lift factory suspension....

    http://flic.kr/p/9NSNmq

will have trim any of the bar? will i get a way with just trimming the unpainted section down the bottom?

    Mick

When trialling 265/85's on D2 with 2" sagged std suspension fouled chronically. We used the lift to pick it back to std height and they fouled the front side of the inner guard liner and guard edge. The rear fouled on 3/4 of max std articulation. With Lovells HD +2" springs without bullbar/rearbar to add weight actually lifts 80mm (so it's "legally" + 50mm). This is enough to clear a std guard and plastic bar and no fouling on the rear. Just needed to adjust steering stops on one side (LH lock), when measured the stop was out by comparison to the other.

Not exactly what your asking about but I have a set of 265/70/16's A694's on my D2a with standard suspension and doesn't rub anywhere.

Not quite as big as the 265/75's but not that far off.

    cheers,
    Terry

    The diameter on the R70 is 777.24mm & the R75s 803.65mm.
That could equal a lot of rubbing.

I see what you are saying RR p38

    265/70/16
    Rolling Radius 388.7mm Circumference 2442.27mm Diameter 777.4mm

    265/75/16
    Rolling Radius 401.95mm Circumference 2525.53mm Diameter 803.9mm

    285/75/16

    Rolling Radius 416.95mm Circumference 2619.77mm Diameter 833.9mm
So clubagreenie has the 285/75/16 with 50+ suspension lift and with a minor adjustment has no rubbing. With the 265/75/16 and and a minor lift its going to be very damn close!

I must go get everything out of storage (building a garage) and fit them and see what happens...

Someone out in rover land must have standard D2a front bar and standard suspension and 265/75/16 fitted or at least tried it......

Just for your information, 265/75/16s will rub on the front radius arms, whether you have a lift or not.

I have a 4" lift and my 265/75/16s (31.7") rubbed on the front radius arms, if you want the same height as the 265s and no rubbing, you need to go to 235/85/16 (31.8") you need to put on a bullbar or trim the front lower wheel arch.

If you want 33s with no rubbing, you'll need a minimum of a 2" lift and 255/85/16 (33.2") and a trim or bullbar.

I am not to worried about radius arm rubbing that's an easy fix
I am trying to avoid putting a bullbar on as its the wife's car and i am going to try an avoid lifting more then about 30mm as it needs to be able to access shopping center car parks etc on the std road tyres. I just have a brand new set of mickey Ts in 265/75/16 on disco 2 rims that I would like to use for family trips away. I have the option of selling the MTZs but I would lose so much money its just not worth it. If I can get a way with only trimming the bottom un-painted part of the front bar then that's OK I just don't want to trim the painted part. Looks like I am going to have to go get the tyres out of storage and fit them

Mine with the "50mm+" lift is only 2.04 to the highest point on the roof rails and still fits everywhere so far.
