I bought a TD5 with 208,000 Kms a few weeks bacck - seller had receipts for $5000 worth of work this year alone, so most off what can go wrong had been fixed - there's a few leaks (fuel cooler, water sensor and some minor gearbox) to sort out but the engine is a peach - absolutley smooth and smoke free. I think it'll be good for another 200k now - like the previous posts, it's just little niggly things that need attending to after that.

    CDL in D2

    Hi again,

Just came across that the D2 didn't have a centre diff lock until the 2004 update? I heard that they have them just not connected? Are they relatively straight forward to connect? Is there much off road penalty for buying one without it?

    Regards

The early D2's had the innards but were not connected,, easy fix.
The next lot, around 2001-2002 had NO innerds. many dollars to fix.

Traction Control AND centre diff locks is a serious traction combo.

    Thumbs up

G'day, I got my 2004 TD5 3 years ago and it is excellent! I have found that if you keep the servicing up to the vehicle and keep an eye on things, there have been no major problems. The passenger window winding mechanism has been the only thing that has failed, apart from a rear axle when I pushed it too hard (damn Watagans!).
    So far, I love it!
I am preparing it for a trip to the Cape in July, based on it's performance so far I am confident that the Disco will get us there and back without a problem. Definitely go for the model with the centre diff lock , it is brilliant! :

would you reckon a TD5 with 260-270,000kms, with full service history (all country driving, owned by a farmer out in the bush) be too many kms?

it looks quite nice (apart from being dirty) - 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TD5 03MY SUV Private Cars For Sale in WA - carsales.com.au

Here is a check list I have made up

Feel free to add anything else to the list.

Some of the checks have one word explanations as to what/why.

    Hope this helps.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
