D2 a tapping noise from motor
Hi, well just had the v8 serviced, then the next day tapping coming from the engine. From cold start all the way home and then the next day when I started it again. It's not very loud, but it is noticeable and am worried I will cause some damage if it's not fixed..

Blocked oil feed?
Hi CamRat, it seems as though the tapping may be the hydraulic lifters/tappets.
Here is an extract from Wikipedia which may be helpfull:
There are a number of potential problems with hydraulic lifters. Frequently, the valvetrain will rattle loudly on startup due to oil draining from the lifters when the vehicle is parked. This is not considered significant provided the noise disappears within a couple of minutes, typically it usually only lasts a second or two. A rattle that does not go away can indicate a blocked oil feed or that one or more of the lifters has collapsed due to wear and is no longer opening its valve fully. The affected lifter should be replaced in the latter situation.
In certain circumstances, a lifter can "pump up" and create negative valve clearance so that its valve cannot close. Typically this occurs in the most upper rpm range of an engine, and limits the engine's performance. Lifter pump-up is serious, as there may be interference of the valve with the piston or, burned valves may result. In all cases it is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for oil viscosity and quality.

Highly simplistic, but if it was a regular garage (ie non-LR), know what grade oil they used?
I once had a motor serviced and the oill they used was way too thin, and it tapped like buggery for ages till we change the oil for the recommended stuff.
The garage had tonnes of this generic stuff, so just used it.

Check your oil level and check that the bolts on the joins of the y-pipe to the manifold are tight. (manifold being the bits on either side of the block where exhaust exits the engine, and y-pipe being the first stage of the exhaust system that attaches to the manifolds and shaped like a Y)
These have a habit of randomly shaking loose and making a ticking noise.

Cheers sully,
It got towed to my LR mech a by the time it got their the tap gone!!!! Mech said that the oil they used was not fully synthetic so they changed the oil to a fully synthetic. As they are LR specialists , hey told me they normally use the not fully synthetic for d2 but they thought they would change it anyway... So they then took the cover off the right hand side head to see as that was where the noise was originally coming from.. To find no problems. They thought a bit of dirt may have been stuck and the tow truck ride may have got rid of it... But it runs fine now!!!!
Just one of those LR things I guess!
