The wiring for the light may not be hooked up.
I sure someone will point you in the right direction but there is a plug that needs to be connected on the top of the transfer case and it might have been disconnected or is a dirty connection.

Hi,
Have a 1999 auto td5 disco 2 with a Davis Performance Landy's actuator for the CDL. Ie It is 4wd in low only and all wheel drive in high. This suits me fine though (too much money to change to a proper kit). My question is that when I put it into Low and hence 4wd, no dash lights are coming on to indicate that the CDL is locked. Ive done some research on the forum and noticed someone else had a similar problem (but still different!).
Ive taken it for a spin today on dirt and put the lever into low and nothing - no dash lights etc. Turned it off and on again and still no lights.
What to do next??

I know this and have been explaining it to the un-initiated for years. However, it still does not answer my question.
Im still confused why the dash wont light up. Ive crawled underneath and can see that the mechanism is working. Im thinking it must be the electrical connection. Anyone with any ideas apart from the switch?

Well it's got to be either the switch, or the wiring, or the lamp. Not likely to be the ECU.
See this extract from RAVE:
Differential lock unit switch operation
When the differential lock unit switch is operated, an earth path is completed
from the SLABS ECU pin C0506-9, via header C0761, to the differential lock
unit switch on a BU wire.
On vehicles with automatic transmission the earth path is completed from the
switch on a B wire to splice joint SJ2. From the splice joint the earth is
connected on a B wire to earth header C0552.
On vehicles with manual transmission, the earth path is completed from the
switch on a B wire to splice joint A33. From the splice joint the earth is
connected on a B wire to earth header C0552.
When the differential lock unit switch completes the earth path, the SLABS
ECU interprets the earth as a signal. Simultaneously, the closure of the switch
also completes an earth path from the instrument pack on a BU wire to header
C0761, through the differential lock unit switch to the earth header C0552. This
earth is used by the instrument pack to illuminate the differential lock warning
lamp.

Have you tried to move the lever to the left?
No matter if you 're on high or low range,disco is AWD and when the going gets tough you lock the cdl.
The best test is to lift a wheel with a jack and turn it by hand and lock-unlock the cdl to see how it works.
The other aspect is that maybe they connected the wrong wires-plugs to the cdl switch when they put the cdl kit.
fatman - the lever only moves from H to N to L and wont move to the left (like D1's and defenders). The Davis Performance product 'automatically' locks the cdl when you select Low unlike other cdl kits which have two cables and the capability to lock the cdl when you're in high. Although it does have restrictions, this system was only $180 bucks when I got it installed and has worked pretty good. I had the D2 in storage for 18 months while I was going around oz in my defender. The cdl kit worked the first few times I used it (around 2 years ago). I cant remember last time I saw the lights though.
Ive checked the connections, globes, jacked it up and turned one wheel and I think there is a problem with the electric(kery) switch that tells the ECU that the cdl is locked. It cant be the wrong wires - as it has worked before. Also I have installed a switch to the black/blue wire that controls the Traction control (wire 9 on the central plug of slabs computer under the passenger side trim) . When switched off, the idea is that the ECU doesnt automatically turn the TC and ABS off when you restart the car anytime after locking the cdl. I can also turn the switch on - which means that I can cancel the TC by turning the car off, switching the switch to on, and then restarting the car (as is described at step 20 on www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock). At the moment when I turn the car off when in low, flick the switch on, and restart the car, the TC and ABS lights are not activating - hence my idea that there is a fault somewhere in the electrical system.
Its starting to get beyond my mechanical and electrickery knowledge. I think that either the switch is buggered or I have a dirty connection maybe. The problem is I recently moved to Alexandra in Vic and my mechanic is in wodonga - 2.5 hrs north of here!
