Have you tried removing leads from the CDL switch and joining them with a jumper wire while the ignition is on? If the wiring is OK, the light should come on.

Alternatively, hook a multimeter to the CDL switch and look for a change in continuity as the CDL is engaged and disengaged.

It could be as simple as the plunger in the switch has become stuck in position while the car has been garaged for 18 months.

Its Aliiive! (Spoken in my best mad scientist voice). You were right paul (aka wabbit) - it appears that the plunger may have been stuck. Went out this morning (at 2 bloody degrees!!) and jacked the front right up again. Put the level into low (and hence 2 axel/any one wheel front or back/what the amateurs call 4wd) and disconnected the switch. Sprayed some contact cleaner on it. Jiggled things about and voila - she's back in business. My new switch (on blue/black wire 9) works too! So now I have to choice whether to use TC/ABS in 4wd or not. Awe-bloody-some!!

Thanks to everyone who lent a hand - Paul (wabbit), Biggin, Dazza and Fatman. You guys rock. Two big thumbs up from a happy D2 owner.

ps. so impressed have I been by the friendly nature of AULRO and volumes of info available to schmucks like me that I have now subscribed! Cheers everyone.

I'm new to this method of communicating but have found it to be invaluable as I am a D2 td5 owner.
The problem discussed above is one I am having with the Disco so will attempt to do a fix.
    What a great resource.
    Thanks all. Regards Max
