You would only need the 1.41:1 gear set in your current case.
Anyone swopped a Defender T case into a Disco?
I am running 265/75/16's and 5th seems a bit sluggish wit the 1.2 high range. I have someone wanting to swop me for a Defender case.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Teh T case gears arnt available locally as the defender T cases are. I just need to know how much higher my RPM will be?
Disco II ratios are 1.222:1 while defender are 1.41:1 the difference is 15.38% about half the difference between current 4th and 5th.
BTW: You do know that they are both LT230 transfer cases and it's only the gearsets inside (and the lack of some bits in a few DII models) that are different.

So it will work fine with my tyre size?
Yep, but you'll still need a Truespeed to fix the speedo.
??? Umm - surely you can just swap speedo drive gears like I did when I fitted a 1.211 t-case to my 110...
Surely they should be 1.211:1 Q-cases, the same as the late model D1 Q-cases.
Btw - it is just as easy if not easier to swap a whole t-case to change ratios.
Here I am talking RR classic again!
BTW: I did think the early D1v8 used the same 28D LT230 as the RRc.
Back to the original question the swap to a Defender box will (now) be 16.5% lower - Aschcrofts have a calculator at http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...atio_calc.html

Thanks - that explains it... Does the Puma defender use the same system?
If your speed is calculated purely based on wheel speed, why will changing the t-case ratio matter then?
As a last resort, if you fit a pre-puma t-case, then you can fit a disco 1 Q-case drive gear to the defender box, defender(?) speedo cable, and a 4" hole saw will give you a nice hole where the disco 2 speedo was to mount a defender speedo![]()
(......just kidding before anyone says anything)
