Taipan exhaust
Gday all.
Anyone fitted a Taipan exhaust system to a TD5? Thinking of fitting one to my 04 D2a TD5 classic manual. Along with a few other little engine ECU mods
.
Regards
Robbo.

I have never seen or heard of them, but looking at their website I can't say I'm impressed - Landrover TD5 Discovery 2001-2004 - Performance that Bites - in the FAQ section, they have their philosophy on why 3" exhaust, they pretty much say they don't do any real R&D on the particular vehicle and engine combo, but rather use the same sizing for ALL vehicles, regardless of engine size.
Now I'm not saying that 3" isn't a good size for it, they might have got lucky, but there might also be better setups too, which would be found is some testing was done.
I'd do a search. 2.5" seems to be a size that a lot of people have stuck with and remained happy. Just needs to have the factory restrictive cans replaced. You'd probably also be able to build a custom system for cheaper than a lot of these performance companies sell there off the shelf setups for.

i seen a bit on the telly where a 4.2 patrol had a system fitted. they dynoed the vechile before and after with 20hp gain. the reason for the 3 inch exhaust is the drop in exhaust temps, below the factory set figure. then when they "tune" up the vechile the exhaust temp rises, but because they run the 3 inch system to drop the temp you end up with your factory exhaust temp again. why? because chipping a vechile and going above the factory temp will shorten the life of your engine and could do damage the valve's.not sure on td5 but most vehicle engines have a restrictive dump pipe off the turbo, often a larger one of these bolted in and a free flowing cat inverter will lower your exhaust temps, any decent exhaust shop should be able to make your current system work at a fraction of what a taipan system costs. then you can chip it.
