Thread: Electric Windows mod

A quick press will make front windows go all the way down which seems to be reverse thinking to other car manufacturers which require a long press to do same function. I am always getting caught out in my work hilux expecting a quick press will drop window all the way down. Auto up would be a great option, my ex wifes holden astra has auto up and down, and I believe on all windows.

What would be nice is a remote all windows up(and I suppose down) function, not by default every fob lock though,,,

I remember Alien D2 (Kyle) telling me that there is a very handy mod you can do with a Nanocom where you can extend the 'on' time of your elec windows after switching the ignition off. This allows you to wind the windows up after you take the keys out of the ignition.....a very common occurance....

Check your owner's manual. For most modern beasts (RR/RRS/D2/D3/D4/FL) you'll find an option called "lazy locking".

By holding pressed the lock button on your remote you can close the windows and sunroof when you lock up the car.

Alternately (on some) if you do the same thing you can crack open all the windows and sunroof. I've used that on some of the really hot days. It takes just enough of the edge off a furnace like interior to make it bearable to get in and start, and before the air con kicks in.

I have checked owners manual and there is no mention of "lazy locking" for D2, I have had cars that allow you to close all windows from outside of car with key held to one direction in door lock, great feature for when kids forget to close windows.

I stand corrected on that one then . Sorry for misleading you.

Maybe I'm getting it confused with the ability to start the car, leave it running, and lock it using a spare key, so that you can return to a nice warm car. Real handy for cold climates. It sure made the early mornings, with the thermometer well south of zero, a lot better for me.

Still pretty sure most of the cars built since the mid 2000's have "lazy locking". I know the P38's (00/01/02 certainly) and L322's have it. All of the D3/D4/RRS's have it I'm reasonably sure. The FL2 has it but maybe not FL1. Deefer's are lucky to get remote locking, let alone anything fancy like "lazy" locking. Deefer's aren't for the lazy.

Also, it tends to be one of those "dealer programmable" things like so many other annoying little quirks, so even if it is capable it might not be enabled.

A Nanocom/Faultmate would certainly tell you.

Just out of curiosity, I just tried the 'lazy locking' thing with the windows.

My disco is a 2001 ES and when I press and hold down the lock key on the fob, it brings the headlights on for about 15 seconds - guess this is an alternative to the windows winding up automatically?
