You'll have no trouble getting 33's under a D2 with a 50mm (2") lift. Just make sure you get longer shockies as well or you'll find them running out of travel (which really doesn't do them any good). I also got extended brake lines on the rear (the front doesn't flex anywhere near as much as the rear so the originals were fine). Cheap insurance in my opinion.
Good luck in your hunt for a good D2 and don;t be afraid to ask another forum member to have a bit of a look see before you buy if you are unsure of what to look for in a good LR.
Like most here, you'll be hooked within hours of your purchase, they ride better, have more comfy seats and if you look after them, they are every bit as reliable as any of the Jap stuff.
I'm on my second D2 (now have a D2a Td5), even after a complete drowning of our previous one, it still got us and the camper trailer home..... it was then written off by the insurance co.
