Thread: HEY -CLEAN YOUR MAF!

Yip, they are temperamental and care should be taken when choosing the cleaning solution. Also never touch the little elements.

Understanding that the elements heat up in order to measure air flow, common sense should tell you that no residue/liquid should be left behind after cleaning. Like any other element based unit, they too have a lifespan and you'll only get so far with cleaning them. But following basic procedures there should be no reason why this should shorten the MAF's lifespan.

Also another good reason for fitting a snorkel !!

Is this a specific TD5 thing or same goes for the V8?
Or is it less critical?

Just found a new maf on ebay uk for 39 quid. Too good to be true?

Called into my mechanic today,haven''t seen him in two years,made some quireies about my MAF,his advice was not to clean until completely cold and then go gentle!.In manuals ,they usually miss occasionally when stuffed,a good one unplugged makes little difference but drinks like a fish.He threw the magic box on mine and all was perfect,all he wants is a carton of Toheys!.....,and he knows his Landies!

I'm all set now to head south to Rydal,(near Lithgow) on Sunday!

Bet it's chinese made . lot of Mafs on ebay are chinese replicas

I did the oil and filter thing on the weekend and decided to clean the maf----huge difference on the TD5-----thankyou aulro again

Regarding cleaning your MAF;

I fitted a new air filter and spark plugs yesterday and the old girl picked up her game in excelleration noticeably, this morning when it was cold I cleaned the MAF with CRC cleaner and that has made another big jump in performance and I bet fuel economy as you hardly have to keep your foot on the go fast pedal to cruise along at 100k's now.

I had been reluctant to clean the MAF previously but after reading on here others results I decided it was worth a try and it worked.

I did mine the other day when I knew I wasn't going anywhere for most of the day.

Car was cold from being left overnight, took the MAF out & gave it a good clean with the CRC stuff. Let it dry, put it back, left it for another couple of hours....

The car now starts a lot better, and seems to run better as well. I have noticed that while cold, the idle is sitting around 800 rpm, as opposed to warm being around 750. But it does seem smoother...
