where are key spots to look for rust.
I have heard that if a engine over-heats once, it is more prone to over-heating later, is this true?
also something inner lines slipping, i dunno.
Doors are steel
Roof is steel
Guards are aluminium
Bonnet is aluminium
Quarter Panels are aluminium
Some rust is known to happen at the base of the window frame, and chassis. I'm sure others will add some more, but it's not a common problem.
Cyl head
oil cooler,
oil pump bolt
comp gasket set
radiator
sensor,
clutch,
windoe regulator
gear & trans box seals
drive belts,
head bolts,
oil & oil filters
coolant
the above list is what i have been quote that will be done in exchange for $7000
is this reasonable.
also what items in the above list would a noob, such as myself, be able to do, to get down costs?

To save money, I would look at purchasing all the parts myself. Get a list together and get quotes from Britain, US and Australia. A bulk purchase will reduce the shipping costs substantially.
The D2's are very good rust wise,,

The maybe's depend upon your "pull-apart-re-assemble" and spannering skills. If they are good then the other items might also be do-able, but are far more involved.
although i can do all of the ones you have said yes to, i have one problem. the mechanic is going to drain all oil and coolant so he can do his work, and if he doesnt replace the oil, fiters and coolant then i wont be able to drive away with it.:(Quote:
