    SLS spacers in QLD

    Hello All,

I have spent 6 months searching the net, talking to QLD transport counter staff, and found lots of conflicting information regarding the fitment of SLS spacers to vehicles in QLD.

2 weeks ago I submitted a "Motor vehicle modification application" outlining that I wanted to fit 50mm spacers to the rear SLS of my Disco 2 (There was a bit more technical jargon used, but basically that's what I wrote). Anyway.....today I got a nice 4 page letter stating that my application was APPROVED!!!!

I do have to have them inspect the car once the modification is completed!

    A LEGAL SLS LIFT....HERE I COME.

Thats great news mate!! I had just abandoned the idea of lifting my Disco because i was told that spacers are illegal.

If you dont mind, would you post up or PM me the details of the letter and the details of who you sent it to?

Also do you know how much the inspection will cost?
Does the work need to be done by a mechanic for them to approve it?

Thanks again because i know there are plenty of others on this forum that are in the same boat.

    Yeah, for sure.

The form that I completed was an F1854. The form contains the details of where to send it.

I included several photos that I had taken of my standard SLS, and also exploded diagrams from RAVE showing the SLS components and where the spacers are bolted to. In addition I provided a photo of the spacers, and also a photo of what the spacers look like when fitted (blatantly borrowed...from the net).

There is only a short section where you need to give details of the modification I wrote something along the lines of...."
It is proposed that the rear suspension of this vehicle be increased in height by 50mm. This suspension lift would be achieved by fitting 50mm spacers to the mounting point of the rear air suspension bellows. These spacers would be of solid steel construction and would be fitted using Grade 8.8 high tensile bolts and locking nuts. To compensate for the increased height, all vehicle piping that spans between the body and the chassis will be increased to a sufficient length. These spacers are commonly used and a readily available in other Australian states".
PM me if you want any further info.

oh...and yes they can be fitted by anyone as long as the inspector is happy. So basically if you do it properly then it shouldn't be a problem. No idea of the cost.
