    Second spare wheel.

    Hi all,

I have been wondering how i go about fitting a second spare to my '00 Disco 2? What have others done and where did they get it?

    Appreciate your help,

I mount my second spare on the roof rack (A Rola rack) using a Rhino wheel mount bolt which has a U shape and also recently added a 3 way wheel ratchet strap, which I think is also a Rhino product.

The only hassle is getting the thing up there to strap down!!!!!

    Cheers

    Thanks Paul,

The reason why the question is that we are planning a Simpson trip. We need a roof rack too, but i was trying to reduce the amount of weight up top, plus the hassle you mentioned about getting the tyre up there.

Plus i need additional fuel tanks, water tanks, radio....Oh the work!

    Cheers,

For our Simpson and Hay River trips. Second spare on roof bars tied with ratchet straps. 3 x 20l diesel jerry cans in cargo bay, water in 10 & 20l bag in boxes distributed all over the place and pack down to nothing as used. Have fun!

    x2 to JWB's reply.

We've just come back from the Simpson and had the same arrangement. As it happened didn't use either spare but it's worth having both plus tyre repair equipment.
As for the 3 diesel jerries (don't do this with petrol) in the cargo bay, just be sure to have good seals in the filler necks and larry's your uncle.
BTW... we used a whole lot less fuel than anticipated, but of course this varies a lot on conditions, route, etc.

FOOTNOTE: I just read where you're located, so probably a lot of what I just wrote is like telling you to suck eggs!

    Tyre gear and a carcass...

A lot lighter and easier and places less strain on the vehicle as a whole - which is more likely to cause a failure of something!

Local guys here (me included) never carry a second spare. Just pedantic about tyre pressures and speed.
