does anyone know the bosch part number for an 03 4ltr v8 oxygen sensor, the one in front of the cat[there is no rear]going to try repco etc as by the time i pay freight to darwin possibly the same price.Even if i have to cut and join the wires of a universal jobby will do.

I believe they are just a standard 0-1 volt (narrow band) sensor. You should be able to adapt a Falcon 3 wire (EA-EL) or 4 wire (AU) sensor to suit. For joiners you need bare metal crimps and heat shrink. Soldering doesn't work. When I retrofit these sensors I use the harness plug to match, sourced from a wreck, and adapt the old sensor wires to the plug. That way you have a short adaptor cable and can purchase unmodified sensors in the future.

    O2 sensor

All you need is a generic Bosch 0-1volt o2 sensor. These come with a special weatherproof joiner so you can connect your original plug. I guess you know you can't use solder on the o2 wires. Otherwise try Automotive Service Solutions in Perth. 08 92049888-they usually only deal with trade customers but if you can buy from them sensors should only cost you $60 each or so for genuine Bosch. You might try them for OEM fitment o2 sensors and find price is not much different. Do you realise you should replace both??

    Cheers

Do not try and adapt a 3 wire sensor to the D2, the 4th wire is an earth which I am pretty sure goes straight to the ECU on the D2.
3 wire sensors work the same but they earth through the exhaust and chassis, so any earthing issues result in rich mixtures. This was a very common problem with 3 wire sensors on falcons up to AU. The main earth strap terminal on the engine behind the alternator would corrode and although it still handled starting current the increase in resistance caused an 02 reading volt drop and poor fuel consumption.
The reason for not using solder on the o2 wires is that it will cause the sensor to fail.

You need 4-wire generic or OEM

    Cheers

No dramas, just use a sensor off an AU. Some species of VS/VT Commodores use 4 wire sensors too. I couldn't qute remember the sensor wiring on the D2. As for solder, it won't stick to the wires as they aren't copper. The AU sensor should cost a lot less than the universal one, you just need an old harness plug like I said.

I've found gen bosche now have a "cover"? over the electrode,, OK to use if correct model?

maybe this might prevent premature burnout,,,

I dont reckon they are necessarily dead when they throw codes. My o2 codes went away with new MAF.

    I wonder about this,,
"Silicone or ethylene glycol poisoning of the air reference electrode."

as this engine was doing a fair imitation of a stationary steam engine at one point.
