Successful bull bar install
Just thought I'd brag again. I recently picked up an almost brand new ARB steel bull bar for $650 and throughout the weekend with an hour here or there I have successfully completed the install MYSELF! I am quite chuffed as i am no mechanic, no master tradie, but often seem to fit the bill of a majorly dodgy jack of all trades! So, im really happy with the way it worked. Had a few hiccups and got help from a few tech-experts on here but now it's all done. The tricky bits were the need for a new vertically drilled hole through the chassis rails and trying to fit the troutbeck recovery plates all at the same time. Well it's done and I'm an even happier disco owner now. I will post some pics soon in the "show is your d2" thread after the weekend when were doing the BORDER TRACK along SA/VIC border.
So thanks to all the helpful blokes online who answered a few questions for me, once again! Keep the shiny side up, but also... MUDDY!

Thats the multi-billion dollar question isnt it!!!! you know it was purely RANDOM!!!! I watched the occasional one on ebay go for upto $1000 and a new one is above $1500 upto $2000 plus fitting so I ordered an ECB 75mm alloy nudge bar for $600 so get around the massive bull bar expense. I waited 4 weeks for the Alloy nudge to be made and shipped to Adelaide, then literally 3 days before they were to fit it, I got a random PM from Rex (forum member) who had been trolling the forums and seen me talking about how hard it was to find D2 bars second hand. He simply goes "I live here, I have this almost new D2 ARB Bar you can have it for $650. i replaced it with a winch bar"...so Im straight on the phone and down there and its in the trailer back to my place before he could BLINK!!! $650!!!! what a steal hey!!!!
NO wreckers have them, and as you know, theyre rare as hens teeth second hand. So I was "happy" to go with a $600 phat nudge bar for my XGT spotlights and UHF aerial, but when this bull bar came up, I SEIZED it!!
So when I rocked up at Rex's place, took one look and go, yep thanks, heres $650, I think he was a little shocked and expected me to bargain him down, but I felt it wasnt worth it at $650 and just gave him the money and RAN!!!! Now its on and looking sweet as!!!!!

The ARB bars are different between the D2 and D2a. I have just ordered the ARB deluxe winch bar supply only for $1,580 from ARB. Will be fitted in the next month or so after I get it painted to suit the Disco and am installing a TigerzII 12000lb winch at the same time. Will post some pics when done.
Hella Rallye 4000 FF's going on as well, and a snorkel.

I didnt realise they were different. Oh well mine fits perfectly and for $650 there was no way I was thinking about spending $1500 on a slightly different one. Mine is a typical ARB bar which I had on my first disco and I really like them. I've got my 240XGT Lightforce lights on it and my AE4705 PHAT UHF aerial. Coming out from the bottom are my two recovery shackles attached to my two Troutbeck recovery points, so at the moment, with the shackles poking out under the car, the front looks like a cows nose! A nice cows nose though!

As far as i know the only difference is that the D2a bar has holes to fit the bumper spotlights?

Apparently something to do with the height of the top plate and the depth of the lights. Earlier D2's dont sit as deep. Grille surround fouls it supposedly.
Take pics, I want to see how it fits.
