Gday men.
I need a quick answer. Do I need the special tools to remove the viscous fan on my TD5 or can I use a 36mm open ender and give it a tickle with a tap o meter to un do it. I want to change out my thermostat and drive belt.
Thoughts?
Regards
Robbo

I have one if you want to borrow it.

Just got myself a 36mm for my Tool kit to take mine off too...
I must get my alternator sorted soon!!!!
I bought a falcon one which is 32mm and easily available, and then adjusted it with an angle grinder. works perfectly.
I was past borrowing so made up these roughies last time I had to hold shaft and remove fan ................... a bit crude but worked well.
'Scissor' spanner has a hole in each leg which fit over heads of nuts to stop shaft moving while 36mm 'spanner' is applied to nut.

I bought one of these from difflock in UK.
It really made it easier to undo the hub nut after some clown previously had lock-tited the bloody thing on.
I couldn't get it off prior.
One thing about those ebay hub spanners or ford hub spanner is the handle is too short, if means skun nuckles on the fan blades if the fan is on tight.

I remove one of the 3 pulley bolts to allow room for the 12" shifter to fit.
Hold the pulley with a square shafted screw driver between the fan nut and one of the 2 bolts left and off it comes.
I have found some shifters/adjustable wrenchs are slightly thicker and don't fit though![]()
Got a ford fan nut spanner in the correct size. Cheap. Hook a 10mm spanner on one of the pulley nuts to hold the pulley.
cheers

Thanks fella's
Job done. Fan came off easily with a 36mm open ender and a sharp tap with my nylon faced mallet. Changed belt and top hose. Decided to leave thermostat for another day.
