Alternative to Ashcroft (copy i think!)
Bit cheaper.
Keep it simple, straight mechancal linkage! Air-pistons??? more to go wrong just when you dont need it to.

Ok, so as a newbie to LR's I am hopefully going to be getting a D2 in a week or so V8 with ACE and after reading heaps of info in here and watching several YouTube vids on the matter, it looks like I will need a CDL kit of some sort. In my search the Ashcroft CDL kit seems to be the most popular, but I also came across a kit made by a company called 'CM Manufacturing'. The Ashcroft kit involves a lot of work to fit it, the CM company as I see it only requires some wiring and a switch.
CM Manufacturing - Air Shifter CDL (Center Differential Locker)
Has anybody used or seen this kit in action as it seems easier to install.

There are as many variations as there are difference in pricing, from a genuine replacement to a couple of unis and a shifter,
there are LOTS of threads in this forum giving solutions.
My only recommendation would be, whatever you decide, you have the CDL available in both high and low ranges.

Damn that's a good bit of kit! I'm having a CDL installed into my 02 Disco later this month and have been thinking of also installing a compressor for diff lock and tyres......USD$350 is good value and pnuematic drive valves are almost bullet proof now-days
Hmmmmm - more to contemplate![]()
Thanks for the info / comments, I'll probably go for the Ashcroft one only because it's common & the more popular choice. I might still look into the CM one some more before I make my mind up fully!
If I had an ARB air locker (or similar) I would definately be looking to install the CM thing.
Of course, you still have to turn the air on and off, whether via a solenoid, or pneumatic switch.
Oh well, will stick with the linkage under the chassis for now.![]()

+1 for the linkage and lever kit from Home - DiscoveryTd5
I am unsure of the current conversion to GBP but it's £210 delivered to Australia. It is well built and the vendor is very happy to answer any queries you may have - pre or post-purchase.
The lever is LR genuine and it even comes with a sticker to stick on in place of the old non-diff lock one.
Happy installing if you DIY. Think of it as yoga with your Disco...not that I enjoyed doing mine but it is worth the effort.
+2 for the CDL from Home - DiscoveryTD5
He makes them himself, and there is attention to detail.
The ONLY thing I dislike about the DiscoveryTD5.com CDL kit which I have installed (and Ashcroft for that matter) is the fact that the bottom of the lever is open, rather than solid like the factory levers. Unless you add a rubber boot the only thing between the engine bay and the interior is the transfer lever boot.
Could I tap into the SLS compressor to supply the air for the ram?
