    Lock & Alarm Problem

    Hi Guys & Girls
Need some help with a Lock / Alarm issue on a 2002 TD5. Locked vehicle with Handset as normal. Vehicle will not recognise either handset. Opened door with key (which set alarm off) started engine & shut it down. Now engine will not start. Entered EKA code, but halfway through 4th number the indicators started flashing. Final move of key to unlock position I get neither 1 or 2 beeps.
Alarm stops if door is relocked with key.
Any help, or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Regards

Where are you parked? At a shop?

I even have a spot in my sisters driveway that has RF interference and immobilizes the vehicle.

Try rolling it a few meters away from where it is.

Option 2 is your battery may be going! (unlikely)

Problem solved. Replaced batteries in both handsets. Apparantly a common issue up here for vehicles that ahve been in Darwin for a while. When they get to the cooler/drier climate the handsets start to play up.

Had mine not want to work at a van park in Katherine (last one heading out of town on the Vic Hwy) at 6.45am one morning back in July! Only time its done it and been fine since!

i was parked right next to the office. It did not do it a fortnight previously when I was further down the front section of the park.

That is the same Park. We were two rows back from the Office. Two things left me a little puzzled. 1st, the EKA code would not work, 2nd, Both the (old) Handset batteries were 3v or more.
Have spoken to a TD5 owner who parked under High Voltage powerlines at Longreach and could not get back in the vehicle. Local mechanic knew exactly what was wrong, had experienced it before with Series 2 Disco's. Towed them a few metres away disconnected and reconnected the battery and everything set to normal. Tombie is on to it in his response below.

    regards
