    I would except that it runs out of diesel when the guage is 1/2 way between 1/4 & E without the amber dot ever lighting ... the Amber dot only lights up at ignintion on pre-flight check.

    When it hits 1/4 there's about 10-15L left.

    ... it's a Land Rover thing

    Sounds like your fuel float is bent incorrectly.

    Just pop your fuel pump out and adjust it

    Well I am pleased to say that the starting procedure in the owners manual worked a treat.
    Thanks for the input from everyone.
    Good to have a bit of backup when in strife with these things.
