    SLABS ECU replacement?

I've ordered a used SLABS ECU SRD500070 (02/06 build date) to replace the existing ECU in my 2000 D2 TD5. The later ECU's are listed as the current replacement part in Microcat so they should pretty much drop straight in - with programming.

I've just come across a post on a UK forum that seem to indicate the ECU's are locked to a VIN, which will be a show stopper if it proves to be true. Does anyone have any experience doing a SLABS ECU swap, and what actually needs to be reconfigured?

When I checked Nanocom doesn't appear to provide any means to read or set the VIN in the SLABS ECU. Nanocom is able to set SLS/Coils and a few other setting and I'm hoping this will be enough to get the ECU up and running.

    cheers

    Hi Paul,

I dont know if they are locked, but a mate of mine has 2 brand new genuine LR ones in LR boxes... no idea why!... can enquire as to what he wants for them if you need a new one at any stage.

    good luck.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the offer. I'm primarily doing the swap to get the improved programming and CDL aware ABS/ETC/HDC, and picked up an ECU from the US for $135 shipped. At that price it's a cheap upgrade even if I have to pay a LR specialist to do the programming on their diagnostic gear. Obviously it would be a better outcome if I can do the setup with Nanocom.

    cheers

AFAIK SLABS ECU isnt specific. The BCU however is.
But dont buy it on this statement alone!

    Hi Strangy,

I've verified that it's the correct replacement part for the D2. For my D2's VIN a Microcat OSI search lists SRD100462 -> SRD000070 -> SRD500070. The first two are shown as obsolete and SRD500070 is listed as the current replacement part number.

    Original fitment was:
    to XA227049 SRD100461
    XA227050 to 2A736339 SRD100462
    2A736340 to 2A999999 SRD000070
    3A000000 SRD000150
    4A000000 SRD500070

Apparently the software was revised and improved with part number increment, but is backwards compatible.

    cheers

Hi, you may need a T4 or similar to sync the BCU to the ECU if they are not from the same vehicle.

    Thanks Erich

I'll have to see how I go. I suppose if it doesn't sync out of the box or requires more functionality to reprogram than the Nanocom offers I'll loose ABS/ETC/HDC until the unit is seen to by a specialist.

The BBS help for the SLABS seems to indicate that the engine and gearbox type programmed into the module can't be modified. The compatibility indicated in Microcat obviously relates to virgin parts, so it remains to be seen if they can be transplanted without too much drama.

Anyway the ECU is in the post so I'll know the answer soon enough.

    cheers

Question Did you get it working?

Hi OffTrack, out of interest was it just a PLUG AND PLAY job in the end or did you have to have it plugged in to Test Book at Land Rover?

It's actually still in transit from the US. I'm hoping the ECU turns up in the next few days, and I'll report back once I get a chance to hook it up to the car.
