Question 265/65R18 tyres on Disco 2

I'm wanting to purchase a set of 265/65R18 tyres for my Disco 2 - specifically the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 ( Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 ) (the alternative is the Good Year Wrangler SilentArmor - Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor - but I like the look of the Bridgestone better) and fit these to the original HSE 18" wheels.
The overall diameter is 31.56" which is less than that of 235/85R16 that many people on here are using. This also means it should still fit on the spare wheel carrier.
They have a Load Index is 112 (2484lbs/1129kg per tyre), a Speed Rating of T (118mph/190km/h) and Load Range of S (Standard Load) - which I believe meets or exceeds the original Land Rover factory requirements.
Can anyone think of any issues that I may find in doing this?

I think you might have issues with both the tyre rubbing on the inside of the guard, and also with your spare wheel cover not quite fitting correctly.

Don't forget the issue of your speedo being out as well.

Here is a link for a great website that has a tyre size calculator. Even thou they spell tyre incorrectly....LOL.

Not worried about the spare wheel cover. I'm sure I can find a universal cover to suit a 32" tyre somewhere.

As for the tyre rubbing on the inside of the gaurd, where abouts do you mean and when? At full lock? Can adjust the steering stops for this.

Speedo is solvable through use of a TruSpeed unit to intercept the speedo signal ( http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ger-tyres.html ).

i have 235/85 16 on my D2 with the shortened steering stops and i don't have any wheel scrub on full lock although i do have 50mm lift, at 265 i imagine it would come very close to scrubbing even with a lift.
other than that, it should look good

The 18" wheels are further offset than the 16" wheels - i.e. they push out of the guards further, so I believe this should help to mitigate the potential of wheel scrub.
My vehicle also has a 2"/50mm lift.

    The 265/65R18 tyres are 31.56".
What I have just realised though is that the factory 255/55R18 tyres are actually an 1" larger than the factory 235/65R16 tyres - odd!

A problem that I have just realised is that the 265/65R18 tyres require a rim with a width of a minimum of 7.5". The factory 18" rims I believe are only 7" wide.

So I had another look at the options and found 255/70R18 in the same tyre. These are $33.00 cheaper per tyre, so puts the package of 5 at $900.00, saving money as it's now under the $1000.00 mark for imports and taxes! And they require a rim width of 6.5" to 8.5". And the best bit is, they are 32.05", so even taller, which is what I'm chasing! Probably have less resistance/drag too as not as wide grip, so maybe a tiny bit better fuel economy, and lower chance of rubbing as not as wide. So I think this is definitely the better option now. Just waiting on Tire Rack to finalise the freight quote.

My theory is that with the 18" wheels there should be less flex, so better handling over similar sized tyres on smaller wheels.

    The standard tyre sizes are:

    255/55R18
    255/65R16
    235/70R16

That makes them all 29 inches.

I think most, if not all, 18 inch rims are 8 inch wide.

You can also get 16x8, but these are rarer.

I also believe all the factory rims, whether 16 or 18 inch have the same offset.

Yes, you are correct. I just looked and my 16"'s are definitely 235/70R16. And my 18" wheels are actually 8" wide. I confused myself. Either way I'll stick with the 255/70R18 option now as cheaper and taller.

Originally I was chasing the 16x8" rims, but was struggling to find them, which is why I started looking at the 18" options.

Possibly so. I am not sure exactly how offset is calculated. Perhaps I was using the term incorrectly. But what I was referring to is, that my 18" poke out further than my 16" wheels. Perhaps this is due to the fact that they are 1" wider (although they definitely don't poke out 1" further, more like half an inch maybe, which makes sense as they're probably half an inch wider each side).
