P38 auto oil cooler into TD5 D2

It measures at 20mm OD, 18.5 in the roots of the thread and about 17tpi (neither the 16 nor 18tpi thread gauges fit). I can't find my metric gauges.

Have others put the P38 cooler back in the same spot as the original cooler (does it even fit) or elsewhere?

Is the temperature sensor for the automatic transmission in the fluid cooler?

The cooler I photographed is the engine oil cooler, not transmission fluid cooler.

Does the standard TD5 auto cooler have a temperature sensor built into it?
If so, does the P38A unit also have this?

My auto fluid overheated today, so I really need to get this sorted now ASAP.

the attached photos show a P38 cooler attached to a D2 TD5 radiator, the inter cooler is from a D2a

The P38 trans temp sender attaches to the end tank & plugs ito the origional D2 harness

Ah brilliant thanks.

So need to use the specific P38 trans temperature sensor to fit in, but don't need to play with the wiring as straight plug into the D2 wiring loom?

Looks like it was easy enough to fit in the standard position with only some minor small brackets been made (the small silver strips are I assume brackets to fit it in place)?

yes thats correct.

I have not fitted the cooler yet as I was not happy with the bracket & I am concerned about the weight of the cooler mounted on the radiator tanks, also set up like this the cooler hits the power steering cooling lines so they will need to be moved.

I will have another go at it the next time the radiator is out, I am also thinking of mounting it in front of the radiator.

I just spoke to Triump Rover Spares and they want $1,350.00 to do an upgraded auto cooler in a D2! That price seems way exy to me!

I have a B&M engine oil cooler here from a previous vehicle of mine (superchaged Ford Falcon). I'm considering taping into the auto cooler lines and running the B&M cooler as a second cooler.
