I will find the battery number for my Cat battery (which is currently on loan in my sons 4wd)
Toombie, it all depends on your application.

When we go camping - fishing we tend to stay at 1 spot for up to a week. Deep cycle batteries are hopeless to re-charge, as they accept a small charge.

With the Odyssey you can run them down and fully re-charge in under 1 hour with a charge rate of around 50 amps and a battery life of 8+ years. We do this with a Christie Engineering Honda battery charger (about 1/2 litre of petrol to re-charge a battery). This allows us to use our fridge to freeze fish even after we have been camping for a week and not turned on the car.

Also, we swap the engine battery and the fridge battery regularly (via switching) so both have the same type of usage.

As you say, excellent cranking and winching batteries also.

    Erich

I fitted an Optima yellow top in the ARB tray by turning the supplied heat shield upside down and back to front. I secured it by using two M10 threaded rods with a piece of aluminiun angle under the heatshield drilled for the rods to go through. The Optima has the cranking amps to start my TD5, as I found out the other day when my starting battery died, but you need heavy duty jumper leads, mine weren't so had had to actually put the Optima in start battery position.

Here's a pic, hope black heatshield can be seen with threaded rod thru uneven aluminium angle holding battery down.

    Thanks!

Has anyone put a vent/scoop in the bonnet to ventilate/cool the battery position? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Bringing this up again too, is there any reason the ARB tray (specified for TD5) wouldn't also be suitable for a V8?

Seems that the horn needs to be relocated in mine and that's about it..

There is no way Jose to fit a big battery. The tray is 250 long so a D34 Optima can just squeeze in.
    So what to do?
I am going to fit a blue Optima 750CCA and reroute the starter and fuse box lines to the new battery with a 2SWG through a controller to the old position..
The original battery tray is 340MM or so long so can easily take a110AH battery maybe 115AH.
You will need 00 cable for juice to the starter and similar for the earth. I have it costed at $115 from the 12volt shop.

I am just waiting for the next credit card month to start.
