When I was paying for dealer services they cost a lot, but they did alot and time is money.

My transfer case leaks from the back to back seals. It doesn't leak much round town , but a quick 110kmh drive down the freeway sees more oil on the specially placed "Disco transfer case leak catcher piece of cardboard on the garage floor".

Before I go on the next major trek I will be getting the leak sorted and at 291,000kms probably a full overhaul.

The cost is small compared to the inconvenience of a cranky wife, ruined trip and the possibility of the Disco on a flat bed.....

    Regards Gordo

Mikey, that big bolt at the top of the righthand picture came loose on my Disco and I lost a lot of oil. My leak comes from above that bolt however the oil runs to the lowest point.

Get the leak checked by an LR expert as it does not always leak from where it seems.

My D1 has been leaking from the intermediate shaft for years.
I have done heaps of trips in the high country with this.
I carry a litre of oil and a tom thumb pump and at the end of each day climb under and top up.

More often that not it does not need any oil.
When using as a daily driver I check it about every six weeks and it takes between 500mls to about 800 mls.

As I live in a rural area most driving is 100 kph.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I don't mean to sound picky but, your title says Transfer Case leak yet your first post refers to Transmission.
$2k for a transfer case leak is excessive in any circumstance but about right for removal of Transmisson and leak fixed.
