Sob........I only dream of figures like that! That being said, if I really think about it I need to put my D2a on a diet to have any hope of getting those sorts of figures:

Steel Rock sliders 45kg
Steel Bull bar 30kg
Wiinch 35kg
Steel Rear bar 35-40kg
Rear storage Unit with fridge etc 150kg
Recovery gear 50kg

And all this stuff is permanently in or on the vehicle - no wonder my consumption is crap! Oh, I forgot, the rear seats have beed removed and a false floor fitted - that's gotta be at least a 10 - 20kg saving :D

There is about a 20% increase in Fuel use 110kph vs 90 kph in the D2 according to tech info from RRCNSW.

FWIW I did fully laden (3 kids and the back full of cr@p) at 113kph on GPS Melbourne outskirts to Sydney for 850kms exactly 10lt/100km in a manual D2a TD5.

Did it back in a day too - 900kms in 12 hours door to door, with 3 kids under 4. :)

When the D2 TD5 was new I did Melbourne to Dubbo on one tank 900+km with a detour to the dish most of the time i was doing 130+km/hr seemed to do better fuel economy. It would be around the 10l /100km

Faster you go better the fuel economy anyone else have the similar figures?

For best economy on a TD5 Disco...

No roof rack
No bull bar
Stock ride height

The more you lift it, especially with a bull bar up front, the more turbulence under the vehicle you generate. And hence more drag.

Air resistance (drag) increases proportionately to the speed increase squared.

so double your speed and your drag increases 4 times.

LR manual says 90 km/hr gives best trade off of speed v fuel economy.

tearing around at 130 km/hr is definitely not the way to get best fuel economy, it would approach 25-30% increase in Lt/100 km over traveling at 90 km/hr

so if you were getting 10/100 at 130 km/hr imagine what 90 km/hr would have returned

try doing it behind a crane.

perfect driving conditions and when I had her big red did the run (I was working for the company at the time and at the last minute the tow vehicle for the chains trailer broke down) 1000K km towing 2t on the flat and didnt hit the fuel warning light.

You can test your reflexes when the retreads off the truck get spat out the back [thumbsupbig]
