double check the voltage on the primary battery, some dual battery setups need enough juice in the primary battery to turn the system over to its emergency power settings.
I'm currently away in Queensland with work. Before leaving I parked my TD5 Disco at my parents house a few weeks ago. My old man rang me up last night as the vehicle is dead when he tried to move it out of the way (it hasn't been touched since the 11 November).
There seems to be no electrical power (interior light isn't working, remote locking not working etc.). It's equipped with a dual battery setup with the capability to jump start itself. I had him switch that over and there was still no electrical life to the vehicle - so I'm assuming it's not the batteries at fault, but rather something between them and the vehicle, i.e. fuse, relay, etc.
The vehicle is parked on a slope. I had him check the inertia switch sensor thing on the passenger side firewall, as I've had that previous stop the vehicle from starting, but that had no effect.
Is there any easy to check common faults or points that suit the above description?

I would be checking battery voltage like blknight said, i recently had my main battery die and when i went to use 2nd battery to jump start it did not have enough power (my second battery might be suspect as well).
Cheers
Yes, the second battery may not have enough enough juice to have jump start her, and turn the engine over, but would likely have enough to power the interior lights at least, which still remained dead. It's also a near new Optima Yellow top battery as the second one. The red LED on the dual battery controller illuminated when it was flicked over to jump start, so there was 12v in the second battery at least.
usually tho there is a pull in solenoid that connects the second battery to the first one..
if the pull in solenoid is drawing its power from the primary battery and its so flat as to not be able to pull the solenoid then your internal jump start wont happen,

Just got home. You are correct, flat primary battery. Sitting at 2V. So that is disappointing for a number of reasons - 1. the jump start feature on the dual battery controller is fairly useless, 2. I'm probably up for a new battery now as this one has been sitting at a low voltage for a few days and 3. I need to figure out what sent it flat!
This may help with 3

I would have thought your battery would be covered by Optima's warranty, these batteries are designed to be drained quite heavily and still recover multiple times.
