S&M Lights
Hi Guys, The good old S&M lights started flashing on me today and went into limp mode
! I've done some research on it and have checked the battery and the ATF fluid and both are fine. looks like I might try the inhibitor switch rebuild or buy a new one. A fault has come up on my scangauge PO335 which is the "Crankshaft Position Sensor Error fault" would this be part of the inhibitor switch problem?
Thanks in Advance. Ted
P.S. If I do buy a new one would anyone know the best place/price to buy one? $665 is the best I can find so far?

MY S&M Switch issues
I've had these come up as well, when I had left the car in Drive and then, realising this, put it into Park whilst trying to start it. The reason for the limp home mode is that the transmission computer gets a signal it can't interpret and a result it 'protects' itself by going into limp home mode. A basic OBD scanner / reset tool from Jaycar (about $90) clears the fault. So, before doing a XYZ switch replace / repair, consider what else may have caused it. It may be the switch itself or how the auto was operated.

My LR mech does a small mod which directs air conditioning condensation away from the inhibitor switch. The moisture caused the s/w to fail and the M&S lights to come on. What they call a "common fault". I think the s/w price was a few hundred but now I source parts online and if I can't fit them myself, give them to the mech to do. Good luck.

Thanks For that, yes I extended the drain approx 6 mths ago so thought it was weird for it to happen now! I've pulled out the inhibitor switch and it looks brand new inside, no water ingress, gave it a spray with contact cleaner, resealed, re installed and yep the lights came back!
Next I replaced the battery although it didn't show any signs of failure but it was 3 years old so did it anyway and yep the lights returned!
My scangauge is still showing error code PO335 which is "crank angle sensor fault" but the car still runs fine so I'm not sure if this is just a fault that comes up due to the car going into limp mode or it's an actual fault with the sensor? I'm going to order a new sensor just to be sure.
If anyone else has any ideas or knowledge regarding if it could be the crank angle sensor your imput would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to run out of options!!
Cheers Ted.

Ted,
I'd suggest you try to get the Autobox ECU codes read if possible. You are really just guessing at what the cause is without being able to see what faults are being logged.
I've attached a pdf that was posted by another member a few months ago, but I can't find the original post... The first 24 page are for the 95-97 Rangie so you can skip those. The fault codes the D2 Auto ECU can potentially log are described from page 47 of the pdf onwards. From page 58 of the pdf there is "fault tree analysis" for each of the fault codes.
cheers
Paul
