    Question Disco 2 belt Tensioner

    Hi
I was on my way to the coast last week when my wife said should the engine be making that noise
I said it sound like a squeeky belt it will be OK
when we got to the coast I lifted the bonnet to find that the tensioner pulley was not square with the belt and ASSUMED the bearing had gone in the pulley
Left the wife by the beach and headed to get a new pulley
When the pulley was removed it seem to be in good condition so the tensioner was the suspected problem. On removal it was OK.
The metal of the alternator mount where the tensioner is bloted had let go and whole bracket had to be replaced

So much for the long story can anyone explain why this should fail it that location (see Picture)

Mine let go like that too just over 12 months ago, except mine pulled that centre plate out with it.
No hint that it was going, just got a big "bang" and lost all power steering late one night at a set of traffic lights in the city.....

Lucky I was in the RAC and got a flatbed ride home.
