Mate no offense, but I think you need to move on and trade it on something that will tow this van and not break the bank, after all you've spent in money and time, you need something that has power and economy.

    Advantages of a Discovery3 or 4 V8 or 2.7l TDV6

Better fuel economy, for more Beer

More power and Torque, gets to the pub faster for a Beer

Less driver stress, arrive more refreshed for a Beer

    More room for Beer

    More money for beer

Tows better, to enjoy your Beer

    Just saying

    Baz.

Ps, Did I mention B....., oh yeah I did
    Cheers Baz.

I have no doubt that there are "good" D2;s and very "bad" D2's. Like with people i dont know if it is a result of their environment or whether they are just born that way

You may just have to cut your losses and run.

I bought a brand new D2A in 2004 and for the 3.5 years I had it it caused me nothing but problems and cost me many many many$$$$$$$. I swore that I would never buy a brand new Land Rover product again. I ended up cutting my losses and selling it for $9000 less than I actually owed on it, I just couldn't bear the heartache anymore.

Last year I bought a mates 2000 Disco. He had the Disco since new so I knew the history well. While it did have it's share of problems, none were ongoing and most were due to wear and tear. So I have had this Disco for 6 months now and it has been fantastic.........ITS A GOOD ONE!

    Hmmm....
Baz seems to have a pretty convincing argument
As much as I'm a diesel fan-boy, I'm with Pedro.
You've invested to much time, money, and anguish in it to just run away.
    Keep fighting!
