Booked in at DTM on monday but they said most likely Clutch packs and roughly $5k to fix too but can't confirm anything till they've seen it in person.
I've heard Manuel Automatics in Thomastown are the ZF gurus and do their own reco units so they may be a bit cheaper??

Quotes so far are:
$5k approx - Hunter Cuthill & DTM Auto Trans Geelong
$4400 - Manuel Transmissions - Thomastown
$3800 - A&B Automatic - Dandenong
I think A&B will be the go, bit of a drive from geelong but i'm not gonna use $600 worth of fuel there and back and they also offer a 2 year unlimited km warranty. Seem to get a pretty good rap on this forum too.
They need the car for 7-10 days which is a pain but not much you can do about it.
Better book in some more overtime asap!!!

I guess the other option you could consider is a second hand one, Phil at Discospares.com.au is also great to deal with & I believe he offers warranty too. Bundalene may also be an option but he's based round syd in nsw so....

I think A&B are an authority on ZF 4HP22, so I would go to them as they will upgrade any problem areas.

Paul, try Manuel Transmissions in Thomastown (just off WRR), then A&B (in Dandenong South?). Both are ZF specialists.

This thread really caufht my attention. Not that there is anything wrong with my Rangie but one day there will be. I've rebuilt/replaced most things but not the ZF transmission and BW transfer box. The quoted prices here for a trannyrebuild at $3800 to about $5G were interesting.
So I did the excercise of importing privately from Ashcrofts.
A Reconditioned ZF Transmission with reconditioned Viscous Coupling and Transfer Case landed in Melbourne air freight are a maximum of $3193.
Then there is the import and GST but I don't know how to work this out.
Anyone please?
