    Auto Trans

I would like to change the auto trans oil on my Disco II 2004 td5.
Can anyone advise me on any pit falls in doing it myself?
Where do I fill the trans from and how do I know when it is full?

Be glad of any help possible.

    Cheers

    Devo

I can tell you that it's pretty easy but you have to overcome the thing about not crawling under a car that's idling and in gear! Never before have I emphasised the importance so much to someone else about keeping the foot on the brake....

    My filling tip(s)

Rather than getting a suction pump to put the fluid in, I removed the pull up spout on my ATF container (Penrite SIN AFT) and put some clear hose that fit into the hole. I also drilled a little hole into the lid to allow a sports ball air filler tip (thingy) to go in (the ones you get when you buy a basketball, football etc or come with some compressors). I put an air compressor onto the air filler, and the clear hose into the auto.

Follow the instructions on indicated by the others on this thread. eg to fill the auto, turn the compressor on until fluid starts to come out - take out the tip from the container and the fluid stops flowing pretty well straight away. Start the engine and turn the compressor back on, tip back in etc, until the fluid comes out again, as per the instructions on the sites indicated on this thread.
Results, hardly any mess, quick fill, no hand pumping required etc. and the auto oil changed.

And yes, use synthetic fluid, rather than mineral based.
