The XYZ switches are (or were) made by ZF - maybe they are cheaper if you buy directly from them?
Had a D2 Td5 auto towed in with no reverse engagement AT ALL. didn't even try to go in, but would drive forward fine etc. ALL the lights except the 'L' one at the bottom of the shifter travel were out, but NO S or M flashing, and NO limp mode, just NO reverse.
The 4HP22E (And 24E in the 4.6 P38a etc) has a reverse lockout solenoid in the valve body to prevent engagement of reverse gear when not wanted, IE moving forward at more than 15km'h (I think, or maybe 20?) and this was I assume 'tripped' by the failure of the XYZ switch.
Replaced said switch and all was fine with the world.
Sure beats a $4500 trans rebuild
And to add, those XYZ switches are now a stupid price seems they have gone up A LOT since I bought one last. Now sitting at over $700+ retailUsed to be $400 odd, then $600+, and now This

I recently bought a rebuilt TD5 transmission off zf , it came with a rebuilt torque converter and a new xyz switch. Cost $2900 + GST for an exchange unit .
