Hi Folks,
I can't help myself, I need a Discovery 2 (like when my son was 2 and wanted, by the time he hit 5 he needed)
The budget is 20k on the road. Saying that, if I can come in with a grand or two for unexpected problems that'd be great.
The question is simple which is the best model year, or is it simply a matter of newer is better or even older is better?
It will indeed be running me to and from work but weekends it will be taking us out camping, and within a couple of months after purchase it'll be taking us and a pair of trail bikes and their trailer out camping.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely
Mark.
p.s Have a great weekend![]()

Edit - Bugger! Psimpson7 beat me to it.
Hi fiddleback and welcome.
I reckon you'll be looking at the models from the end of 2002 through to 2004 - The D2a.
They are the ones with the funky updated headlights and rear indicators in the D-pillar (not the bumper). They also have all the CDL internals and linkages.
All the best with your hunt.
Waz
As above...so much so I tried to instigate a seperate D2a section as they are so much more awesome that a D2......alas the D2 owners had a sook so we are all bundled in together. FOR NOW,
Regards

Get a D2 2002 without CDL .... The opportunity to spend more money putting it all in yourself......![]()
Early D2's also had the CDL internals just no leaver to activate, but they come with other gremlins. best bet if you got 20k is select a D2a that suits your needs, eg everyday car, look for something with the added extras. otherwise if its a bit of a basher the simplier the better. less things to go wrong. less to clean.
We've got a 2004 2a TD5 Landmark and one of the very last made. Daisy has done us proud over the years and only had a few non wear-and-tear snags. I would go for a car that is as close to 'as built' as possible. That way you can be reasonably confident that it has not been botched around with or abused and has led an easy life... which gives you more scope to make your own changes. Welcome to the club!
ok, ok, I gotta ask,,
whats a landmark?
(this'll be good)

Pedro, I'd commend this article to you: How To Use Google To Search
From Wikipedia (the second top hit for a google search on TD5 + Landmark):
In the final production run of the Discovery II, only two models were offered for sale in the UK market, the 'base' Pursuit, which still retained a high level of equipment as standard, and the top specification Landmark, which offered all Leather interior, twin sunroofs, Active Cornering Enhancement six-disc CD player and Heated Windscreen. The final vehicles left the production lines in late May 2004 to make way for the all new Discovery 3 (LR3) models
and here I was expecting some smart reply about a bridge![]()
